Shilpa Shetty's Bastian Bandra: A Star Hangout Closes
Shilpa Shetty's Bastian Bandra closed on Sept. 4, 2025 after nine years. The announcement, the regulars, the Ammakai plan and open questions.

For nine years Bastian Bandra was one of Mumbai's best-known celebrity dining rooms. Its last night was Sept. 4, 2025. NDTV, News18 and The Indian Express report on what it was, who went there and what replaced it.
The announcement
Shilpa Shetty announced the closure on Instagram. "This Thursday marks the end of an era as we bid farewell to one of Mumbai's most iconic destinations, Bastian Bandra," she wrote, calling it a venue that "gave us countless memories, unforgettable nights, and moments that shaped the city's nightlife".
She said a special evening for the closest patrons would mark the end, and that the Thursday-night ritual Arcane Affair would continue the following week at Bastian At The Top. We did not find a reason for the closure in the owners' statements.
How it started
The Indian Express says Bastian Bandra opened in 2016, and that Shetty later became a partner. It explains that Aallia Hospitality was founded in 2010 by Ranjit Bindra, Kinal Jani and Tina Ranjit Bindra, who first started the Bastian chain. Shetty joined forces with the company in 2019 to form Bastian Hospitality Private Limited. News18 describes the Bandra opening as a partnership between Shetty and Bindra, while the Indian Express dates her partnership to 2019.
The Indian Express adds that the group opened a Worli branch in 2020, moved it in 2023 to a rooftop location called Bastian At The Top, and opened branches in Bengaluru and Pune, plus a Peruvian-Asian restaurant called Inka.
The room and the menu
NDTV says the interiors had vaulted ceilings, modern chandeliers and a warm beige palette, and that the eclectic, seafood-forward menu included a burrata salad, Mongolian lamb and a theatrical lobster bomb. The restaurant also hosted Arcane Affair nights, which NDTV describes as a blend of dining and nightlife.
The regulars
News18 called it "Bollywood's dining room" and said it became the paparazzi's favourite hunting ground. NDTV lists regulars including Malaika Arora, Janhvi Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput, Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh, Ananya Panday, Disha Patani, Tiger Shroff, Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. The Indian Express says Sonakshi Sinha and her husband Zaheer Iqbal held their wedding reception there.
What comes next
Bindra said in a statement quoted by NDTV that from mid-October the Bandra space would become Ammakai, a specialty South Indian restaurant whose name means "the mother's hand", and that the brand would open Bastian Beach Club in Juhu. "Bandra was our beginning," he said.
News18 reports that Bastian At The Top, on the 48th floor of Kohinoor Square in Dadar West, continues to operate, with a seafood-leaning menu, vegetarian options and handcrafted cocktails. Harper's Bazaar India described its 2023 opening as a 450-seater space with a "Forest" bar area, a fine-dining section and a weekend-exclusive swimming pool.
A business claim
The Indian Express reports that Shetty told Zoom in an interview that Bastian paid the highest GST in 2024 in the hospitality business. That is her own claim, and we did not find an independent check.
Why a hangout matters
The star presence was part of the product: diners came partly to be seen, and photographers came because stars did. The sources describe that as a feature of the brand, and none of them measure its effect on revenue.
What we could not confirm
We could not confirm why the restaurant closed, because the owners' statements give none. The opening-year and partnership timeline differs slightly between outlets. We did not verify the celebrity regulars list beyond the two outlets. We did not check whether Ammakai or the Juhu beach club opened as planned.
