For a film star who spent decades at the top, Dharmendra described his idea of a good life in simple terms: land, crops and animals. His farmhouse near Lonavala became the setting for that life, and it was visible to fans through the videos he shared. This piece collects what was reported about the property and how he spoke about it.

The roots

According to his Wikipedia biography, Dharmendra spent his early life in the village of Sahnewal in Ludhiana district, where his father was the headmaster of the village school. He went to Mumbai to find work in films, and after one early failure returned to Punjab and took a job with a drilling company before going back to try again. The farm echoed the village he came from.

The property

Reports describe a farmhouse of about 100 acres in the hills at Lonavala. Mint, in a report published after his death, places it near Aundhe and close to Lohagad Fort, with views of mountains and open fields. It says the estate had organic farming zones where he grew fruit, vegetables and rice, and kept cows and buffaloes. The main bungalow, Mint says, avoided flashy design and used wood, stone and earthy textures, with a large sitting room built for family gatherings. It also mentions a swimming pool, a rock garden and walking trails.

His biography confirms the basic fact: he had a farmhouse in Lonavala where he lived in his final years, while his family resided in Juhu, Mumbai.

In his own words

He talked about farming with pride. In a 2015 interview quoted by News18, he said, "I am a Jat. Jats love their land and their farms. I spend most of my time in my farmhouse at Lonavala these days. Organic farming is our focus and we grow rice. I also have some buffaloes there."

He shared the results on Instagram. In a video from May 2018, reported by NDTV Food, he introduced the first batch of mangoes from his farm, saying they were Alphonso mangoes "sown with a lot of love". News18 reported in March 2020 that he showed vegetables from that season, including tomatoes, cauliflower and brinjal. The Tribune reported in June 2021 that he posted a clip of himself with a calf, saying he was preparing two calves for farming.

What it meant to him

The accounts give a consistent picture of a man who treated the farm as a place to slow down. NDTV Food described him as taking pride in being a farmer's son. That pride appears in his own words, not just in the reports.

There is a less flattering note in his biography. When he served as a Member of Parliament for Bikaner from 2004 to 2009, he rarely attended Parliament sessions, preferring to spend time shooting films or at his farmhouse, and he was widely criticised for it. It is part of the record, though it is a separate matter from the farm itself.

After his death

Dharmendra died on 24 November 2025, aged 89, according to his biography. Reports differ slightly on where he spent his last period: Mint framed the Lonavala farmhouse as his retreat in his final days, while the biography says he died at his residence in Mumbai. We have not tried to resolve that difference and it does not change what is known about the farm.

What we could not confirm

The 100-acre figure appears in Mint, News18 and Hindi-language coverage, but we did not find a land record or an official statement. We have no valuation, and we did not see the property ourselves. Details of the interiors come from one outlet's description and photos of the house shared on social media.
